In this first presentation about our trip along the coast of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil, we will discuss the following: the changes in geographic and urban physiognomies, from a colonialist sense of the narratives of ancient traveling artists and painters of the past, about the Island of Santa Catarina, to its new guise, in the present moment, appropriated by real estate capital. Here we present a contemporary strategy, still embryonic, of perception and representation of these coastal landscapes that can be carried out by trips on board boats, from the perspective of architecture and urban planning students. In this sense, we aim to reveal some contrasts between centuries-old churches and old fortresses built during the Portuguese colonial era, to a particular appropriation of the coastal strips by real estate capital. Thus, we will present some images of these nautical trips. Sailing across the ocean on a boat in partnership with the Escola do Mar, with undergraduate students, and aboard the Veleiro Eco da UFSC, with graduate students in architecture and urban planning. This process of reading and interpreting images from the past to the present seeks to awaken other perspectives on cities along the waterfront, from the north of Florianópolis.
