This article addresses the coastal areas of the Hercílio Luz Bridge region in Florianópolis, southern Brazil, where coastal communities coexist with artisanal fishermen amidst ancient maritime-industrial ruins. The area was once an important nautical passage to Santa Catarina Island, a timber dock, and a fishing hub. A place marked by shipwrecks and coastal settlements. Today, artisanal fishing practices coexist with the remains of old fortifications, residences, warehouses, and a new yacht shipyard. This work sheds light on this location, considers the critique of the economic exploitation of the landscape, and the threats to pre-existing structures. Finally, it presents a project carried out by students in an Architecture and Urbanism course studio for a dock made of wooden posts and discarded tires, as an installation that values maritime culture and can inspire the creation of new, more sustainable uses.
